On the meeting between Sergey Lavrov and David John Francis in Moscow
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Sierra Leone David John Francis, who is in Moscow on a working visit.
During the talks, the sides discussed topical issues of further development of friendly Russian-Sierra Leonean relations, including deepening political dialogue and building up economic, humanitarian and other mutually beneficial cooperation. At the same time, the ways of expanding business contacts, the tasks of implementing new joint projects in such areas as the development of reserves of mineral raw materials, the fuel and energy complex, infrastructure, and fishing were specified.
A thorough exchange of views was held on key topics of the international and African agendas with an emphasis on reforming the UN Security Council, resolving regional conflicts and combating terrorism, including in the Sahara-Sahel region and West Africa, the Horn of Africa, the CAR, countering the proliferation of dangerous infectious diseases, including COVID-19. Moscow and Freetown reaffirmed their commitment to political and diplomatic methods of unblocking crisis situations in Africa with the leading role of the Africans themselves with the support of the world community. In this context, it was agreed to further strengthen coordination of actions in the UN and other multilateral platforms. Considerable attention was also paid to promising areas of effective promotion of Russian-African multifaceted cooperation in the light of preparations for the second Russia-Africa summit in 2022.
