On the march of the «Immortal Regiment» in Conakry

On May 7, a solemn event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War was held at the Russian Embassy in Guinea.

Following the good tradition, the event began with the march of the "Immortal Regiment". More than 100 people took part in it. Russian citizens living in Guinea and the staff of the diplomatic mission honored the memory of all those who defended our country during the Great Patriotic War.

During the festive evening that followed, H.E. Mr. Alexey V. Popov, Russian Ambassador to Guinea, addressed his congratulations to the guests: "Our task is to preserve the strength of the spirit and the love for the Motherland of our grandparents, to put an end to the neo-fascism that is raising its head again and not to let those who have forgotten the lessons of history win. < ... > Victory Day unites us all. We are moving forward based on our centuries-old traditions and with the certainty that together we will ensure a free and secure future for Russia".

Colonel Andrei Sotnikov, Military Attaché, also stressed in his speech that the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory is a reminder not only of the past, but also of our common responsibility for the peace of today and tomorrow.

The students of the school near the Russian Embassy in Guinea congratulated the guests on the upcoming holiday and presented a literary and musical composition. According to tradition, the last number of the concert program – the song "Victory Day" – was recited not only by the artists on stage, but also by all the spectators in the hall.

After the solemn part, a "soldier's porridge"was offered to the guests. At the end of the evening, a film screening "Only "Old Men" Are Going Into Battle" was organized for the guests.
