Press release on Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone Nabeela Tunis

On November 17, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Sierra Leone Nabeela Tunis.
The ministers discussed the development of bilateral relations, including prospects of practical cooperation in education, agriculture and energy. The sides also agreed to contribute to implementing the decisions of the Russia-Africa Summit held in October 2019.
They focused on cooperation between Russia and African countries within the United Nations.
The Russian side underscored the importance of realising Africans’ ambition to play a more active role in maintaining international peace and security, first of all on the African continent. The ministers confirmed the mutual intent of Russia and African states to promote cooperation on the global stage, including in the UN. Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed support for the efforts to reform the UN Security Council in order to expand the representation of developing African, Asian and Latin American countries there.
